Maintaining Your Ramp in the Winter
January 17, 2019Wheelchair Accessibility Low Maintenance and Temporary Solution
For people that use wheelchairs or walkers, ramps are a must. The beauty of an aluminum modular ramp is that it can be installed in about an hour and it can be taken down whenever you may not need it anymore.
Aluminum wheelchair ramps do not rust and they do not have any impact on the environment. They also have ribbed surfaces on them to create better traction during snow or rain. Even if you may not need the ramp for yourself, it is always better to have your home be handicap accessible. Maybe you have holiday dinners at your house and have someone in your family that will need a ramp to get in your home.
There are numerous reasons why it is better to have your home be handicap accessible. Aluminum ramps are fairly easy to maintain in any climate. We live in Michigan, so the weather is very sporadic if you are not glued to the weather channel. The only hard time you will have maintaining your ramp is in the winter. You have to make sure that the ramp is clear of snow, and not icy. We recommend using ice melt, and that will take care of ice build-up on your ramp.
For the summer there is no maintenance, along with spring. Unless our Michigan weather sees fit to give us snow then too(let’s hope not)! In the fall you may have to clear your ramp of leaves when they fall down. We service throughout the entire state of Michigan!
